News Byte: Alpha Data colleagues part of IEEE Best Paper Award Winning Team

Alpha Data Engineers Recognized at IEEE Aerospace Conference

Alpha Data team members David Dolman and Ken Crocker, were part of the team that won the IEEE Best Paper award in the Avionics and Space Applications track at the 2025 IEEE Aerospace Conference. The paper was led by Didier Keymeulen and the team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory/ Caltech – California Institute of Technology.

Their paper, “Enhancements of FLEX Hyperspectral Data Compression using High-Performance Embedded Space Computing,” was recognized for its technical innovation and presentation quality. The research addresses efficient data management for hyperspectral imaging systems in space applications.

We’re pleased to see David and Ken’s hard work recognized by the IEEE community,” said Andrew McCormick, Alpha Data, CEO. “These compression techniques can help improve data transmission efficiency from space platforms, showcasing the world-leading people we have the privilege of working with at Alpha Data.”

The research was conducted by NASA JPL/ Caltech (California Institute of Technology), in partnership with Alpha Data and Correct Designs Inc. It was presented at the 2025 IEEE Aerospace Conference in Big Sky, Montana, held March 1-8.
